Western Herbal Medicine
Western herbal medicine uses plants to create medicines in order to help prevent or treat various illnesses. These materials may use some or all parts of a plant, such as flowers, roots, fruits, leaves, and bark.
Herbal remedies have many uses including, but not limited to, improvement or general support of digestive, respiratory, circulatory, immune, endocrine, and nervous system processes. Herbs are also used to purportedly remove waste and toxins from bodily cells or topically to promote healing of the skin.
Herbs of the Western herbal medicine tradition are the subject of increasing interest in the medical community. Research is currently being conducted in the use of medicinal herbs for various medical conditions and this is exciting! The more the scientific community confirms what we, naturopaths, already know about these fabulous plants, the more we are able to understand the medicinal properties that make them such a safe and efficient way to treat and heal people.
We've lost the ability to see how wonderfully nourishing and healing food is. We are often using it as a mere source of fuel without being mindful of how all the nutrients coming from it are helping our body grow stronger, repair and heal.
As a naturopath my goal is to create that connection again through understanding of what your body needs to be the best it can be. That will include filling diet diary and looking at the role food has in your life. We will also find out if there are any allergic reactions or intolerances that we may need to work with. Depending on what you are experiencing, you will be given meal plans to help you use healthy easy to follow recipes and you will be educated on what food is best and what to buy for maximum results.
